North Forney High School Band Students Selected to The Lonestar Youth Winds Ensemble
Two North Forney High School band students recently auditioned and were selected for the The Lonestar Youth Winds (LSYW) ensemble. Valory Justice and Dawson Welch, senior percussionists in the North Forney High School Pride of Falcon Nation Band, are leaders in the group in musicianship and character.
"It is rewarding to see that the experience provided in the North Forney band program has prepared these students to have the opportunity to perform with such a premier ensemble," said Jim Gist, the North Forney High School Director of Bands. "We are honored to have Valory and Dawson represent the North Forney High School Band in The Lonestar Youth Winds. I am so proud of Valory and Dawson for this outstanding accomplishment and recognition.”
The LSYW is made up of 60 woodwind, brass and percussion players who are in grades 9-12. The LSYW is selected from the most outstanding young musicians from the North Texas community.
These young musicians are placed in a professional environment that facilitates measured musical progress through regular rehearsals, sectionals, performances and interaction with composers and other renowned musicians. Overall, the ensemble offers musicians hours per year of intense, small group sectional instruction from highly regarded professionals.
The Lone Star Youth Winds presents two full-length concerts at the Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts and Moody Performance Hall. In addition, members of the LSYW receive the opportunity to collaborate with professional musicians of the Lone Star Wind Orchestra.
On Sunday, Feb., 2022, the Lonestar Youth Winds performed their first concert since before the pandemic began.
