Forney ISD Students Earn Scholarships to AFJROTC Cyber Academy

AFJROTCFour Forney ISD Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) cadets were selected to receive scholarships for the third annual AFJROTC Cyber Academy. The four cadets are Cadet Amber Gomez, Cadet Ashley Gomez, Cadet Michelle Johanson, and Cadet Ryan Zanolini from Forney High School.

The AFJROTC Cyber Academy is a program designed to select cadets who are potentially interested in a cyber career. Cadets will have the opportunity to learn about cyber operations, programs, and infrastructure.

There are more than 125,000 high school AFJROTC Cadets nationwide and only 132 were chosen for the academy this year. Each cadet will receive a scholarship funded by the National Science Foundation to attend either a virtual, online or an in-resident summer university program for college credit and the opportunity to earn an industry IT certification.

Cadets who participate in the program do not incur a military commitment to the Air Force or any other branch of service, nor does completing the program guarantee acceptance into one of the military’s commissioning programs.

The mission of Air Force Junior ROTC is to develop citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community, while instilling values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility and sense of accomplishment.
