Forney ISD AFJROTC Program Receives Distinguished Unit Award

The Forney ISD Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC) was recently notified that it has been selected to receive the 2021-2022 Air Force JROTC Distinguished Unit Award. This is the 7th year in the last eight years that the District’s AFJROTC unit (Unit TX-20081) has earned the award. 

The award recognizes Air Force JROTC units that have performed well above and beyond normal expectations and that have distinguished themselves through outstanding service to their school and community, while meeting the Air Force JROTC citizen development mission for America. 

Forney ISD’s AFJROTC program consists of high school students from both Forney High School and North Forney High School. The unit participates in a number of programs throughout the school year, including supporting the district and the community. 

This year, cadets in Forney ISD’s AJFROTC program have been selected to attend various academies and leadership programs. They have also won seven awards at military drill events and accumulated thousands of community service hours. 

The Forney ISD AFJROTC program is led by Retired USAF Chief Master Sergeant Rogerio Garcia. 

The AFJROTC seeks to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship and life skills; promote community service; instill a sense of responsibility, develop character, leadership, and self-discipline through education and instruction in air and space fundamentals.  

Air Force JROTC has more than 870 units in high schools all over the world.Air Force JROTC enrollment includes more than 125,000 cadets and 1,900 retired USAF instructors who do over 1.6 million hours of community service each year.
